But it looks like US only :(

Valve Software will be offering over 40 Ubisoft PC titles on its Steam digital distribution platform in Canada and the US, with Assassin's Creed headlining the lineup.

Valve said that Ubisoft's first-person shooter Far Cry and the original Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell are immediately available at a 10 percent discount until April 8.

Steam is also accepting pre-orders for the PC version of Assassin's Creed, which launches April 9.

Valve will add additional Ubisoft titles over the coming weeks, including more Tom Clancy-branded games, Heroes of Might & Magic titles, the IL-2 Sturmovik collection and others.

I see that they've also got Atari in their "Publisher Catalogs" section, still not appeared on ours yet!

EDIT: Just had Steam update...

[-]April 1, 2008 - Steam Client Update Released

A Steam client update is now available. To apply the update,
click the File menu inside of Steam and then select
"Check for Steam Client Updates...". The specific changes include:

Steam Client

Fixed corrupt backup creation for certain games

Updated game overlay to support Assassin’s Creed

steam rocks, best thing ever for pc gaming imo

sure it's got a few bugs, and the way they released the old doom games is shocking (wapping dosbox around them, looks mega ugly)

but the fact that you can just copy the folder to another drive instead of re-installing/redownloading the whole lot is awesome.

Now just for Crysis to make its way to steam, then I'd have bought every game I'd previously plunder'd :)

Steam/Valve's portfolio of publishers signed up is very impressive.

A role-model for the industry perhaps?

ah well, there's two 4 page threads on the Valve forums of people complaining that the Ubisoft games are only available on Steam if you live in America.

Well played, Ubi

As one forumite put it:

As i read somewhere assassins creed will be launched on Steam in America and on torrents in Europe.

Ubisoft are only hurting themselves. I don't like Hard Copies, as all it means is I have to download CD/DVD cracks for my legit games. If Ubi let me buy their games.

Crysis won't appear on Steam simply due to EA. They're trying to peddle their own online game distribution system, which is nowhere near as good, but then business always comes before what customers would want. ;)

Steam was almost universally hated when it first came out, but it is truely excellent, if they sort out their pricing they could totally dominate all computer game sales.

There's nothing wrong with Steam's pricing..

Neither Steam nor Valve set the prices for 3rd party games. Take CoD4.. it's still ~$70. You can thank Activision for that, not Steam.

I don't understand why EA, Ubi et al can't see that Steam would give them a massive sales boost.. I think more publishers should embrace it tbh :)

I think the publishers should stay away and Steam should start getting the developers on board, it is the publishers which are keeping their games highly priced on steam. As good or well intentioned to developers any particular publisher may be, when it comes to something like steam they won't price themselves out of existance. At the moment it just looks like publishers are throwing their back catalogue on steam to see if they can squeeze anything more out of it.

Steam for the win, loved it since the first beta came out, when it seemed like 80% of the gaming community loathed it to bits. Tunes have changed for some now :D

Yeah know what you mean. When I first got it everyone was telling me to steer clear and that it was rubbish and would be gone in a couple of months. But it's still going strong. Got some ace games off steam, they had Two Worlds on there for $9.99 (about £5!) the other week, it cost me like £35 lol. Can't go wrong with Steam.

Would be good if Crysis appeared too, would boost the multiplayer quite a bit. But yea, wont happen with EA.

Noooooo! I nearly wet myself when I saw Ubisoft was on Steam. Then to discover it's NA/Canada only. The <bleep>s! Ubi is a goddamn French company.
