Ubisoft Follows EA with 2nd hand/online charges.

Don't care the used price will fall to reflect the extra. Just like gears 2. The price varied depending on whether you had used the codes.

Win win for me, if it's a game I'm not interested in playing online the used price will be even cheaper. God bless EA and Ubisoft.

For example take red redemption. If this used that system I could buy a used copy for about £20 where it would cost me £30 or more. The re-sale value would plummet and if I wasn't going to play the game online anyway, bargain. Bigger saving on what I would have paid.

You guys are missing it lol, EA called it the Online Pass. But Ubisoft merely state that they will follow them.

He also says this:
Ubisoft CFO Alain Martinez said in a Tuesday earnings call following Ubisoft's fiscal year results, "Regarding ... monetizing used games or downloadable content … most of the games that we will release next year will have downloadable content available from the start."

Erm, that sounds like it WILL affect single player games (question is how many <good> missions/maps will you be missing out on?).

And you know damn straight this will not make games any cheaper.

No your missing the point. They won't include missing game content for the single player from the start because so many people who buy consoles don't have a net connection or even play with them hooked up to the net.

They won't be able to sell a half release to people who cannot connect to the net. DLC for single player games is completely different to not adding a portion of the game to make it incomplete.

Yes it will make them cheaper for resale, no-one is saying they wont be cheaper RRP, but the resale price will suffer and as I play very very few games online, bring it on.

.. but the resale price will suffer...

How do we know? Will it put people off from reselling the game themselves?
Also will Game and etc just offer less to those going to trade in but still sell at the usual price lol.

Just saw on another forum a guy raging that he couldn't play UFC online because he has rented the game lol.

Good. He's a liar most likely as the american and uk release date is the 25th of may. So he's raging because he's pirated a game and now has to pay to play online. IF I was a pirate I'd consider that a fair price as I was paying 1/4 rrp to play games.

The people who will lose the most here are players in countries where Marketplace and possibly PSN store (which I'm not overly familiar with) isn't officially supported.

I am actually thinking this is a good move. It might help smaller titles that have online actually sell a few more copies.

Same actually as theres definately a lot of games I'd want to buy for the single player but not want to play against other players. From EA I could give the C&C games as examples of this as players just seem to do the same silly tank rush tactic every game anyway lol.

Was talking to a mate who works at the local gamestation who reckons half the sales he puts through involve a trade of one or more games. Could this actually contribute to a decline in the sale of new games if trading is becomes next to worthless for retailers and consumers?

They won't lose out at all as if the Marketplace isn't supported they can't play online anyway.

Sony has already implemented this in some PSP titles, although in their case I imagine it is more to deter piracy than stop people trading games. ModNation Racers is the latest game to feature this.
