Ubisoft Games - Going off steam?

Enjoy your holiday.

Piracy talk is not allowed, certainly not admitting to it.

Stating that you have pirated something isn't against the rules, and it's not really an admission.

FAQ Rules said:
No links or requests for "warez"
Providing or asking for information regarding "warez", "gamez" or any other software protected by copyright is forbidden. This includes discussion of 'chipped' or modified games consoles.

No information was requested or provided on obtaining "warez".

Next you'll be saying it's against the rules to talk about buying games from "the Rainforrest".

We don't condone piracy, never have. Of course we have no proof anyone has illegally downloaded anything until they admit to it, in this case the gentleman did.

Thank you.

But it's not in the rules that you get banned for "admitting" to it.

Speeding is a criminal offence that people "admit" to doing fairly regularly on these forums, and even a number of people have admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol. No one was banned for these admissions.

So why are people being banned for "admitting" to illegally downloading copyrighted content?

Not banning someone for stating they they've done something illegal isn't the same as condoning it, it isn't even close. Plus as I said previously, the rules mention nothing about admitting to having broken copyright law being against the rules, because it would be absurd to do so.

He's not banned, he's suspended.

They also have to be careful as this forum is linked to a shop, if they were seen to be allowing discussion of pirated material it could be bad for them.

Maybe if he hasn't been quite so obvious about it....I'm sure there are other people getting away with 'wink wink, nudge nudge' type comments.

This is a perfect indication of the kind of long term damage Ubisoft is doing to their own business. By releasing buggy, unfinished games that make the customer feel like they've been conned and cheated, by blocking games from the likes of Steam where they can be easily bought, you foster a toxic relationship with the customer.

People feel they've been conned with Unity, so it's all right to pirate FC4, and once you start with that justification, why stop?

The reason why Steam is so successful is they build a relationship with the customer, and make it easy for him to give you his money for games. It's amazing how many publishers don't seem to realise how important these two things are, and are happy to cheat their customers with crappy products and think it will all be forgiven and forgotten next time they ask for your money.
