UbiSoft servers are down again this weekend

There is no real second hand pc market though.

Why do you think that is? Is it because PC gamers are particularly anal about owning brand new, unadulterated copies of games? Or is it somehow linked to the fact that many games nowadays require activation in an account-binding manner, making it impossible to resell games?

PC games are cheaper and drop in price significantly within a few months so there's no real value in second hand games unlike with consoles. There's certainly no market that Ubi will cash in on with the DRM.

This week it is 'pirates' am sure it wont be long now till it is blackmailers trying out the same trick. especially now this info is in the public domain.

Which is why you make a separate account for each game, using a false name? AFAIK, they don't ask for credit card details when you make these accounts, so they have no means of checking any of the details you give them. Just call yourself Mr Blobbington and be done with it? :p

Seems like Steam have removed the games that use this DRM

That article is amateurish at best.

That has been the case since launch, why are they only reporting it now? Hardly "News".

Ass 2 and SH were listed on the U.K Steam store upto a day or two before release then at the last minute, they were removed with no explanation.

Same with Metro 2033, although maybe that will appear tonight but I doubt it.

Contractual or not, why is it only removed from the U.K? Removing the game from this tiny island is hardly "making a stance". The same publisher publishes the French and U.K version, yes I understand there may/may not be different contracts for different regions but why would their be a "loophole" in one and not for the rest of the world?

I think this has more to do with those on the European continent getting Steam gifts from those in the UK for a cheaper price, that is my explanation.

Greedy publishers.

"Ubisoft apologises for DRM with free game" - Listen up kids! Don't pirate our games and we will give you free games!

Getting more money from the UK market would be my guess as well.

Let's face it, Steam isn't so all-powerful yet that they can snub major publishers over something like DRM. All the other publishers would take note, and - since they're all likely working on similar DRM schemes - this would seriously damage Steam.

Not going to happen, I'm afraid.
