Ubuntu 10.04 netbook remix - advice/help on themes.

Hi there, im looking at trying to put a new login screen on my netbook. Iv read a number of sources and ways to change the log in screen but all are confusing or dont work

can anyone give me a quick noob tutorial? i have downloaded one from http://art.gnome.org/themes/gdm_greeter and it has come in a tar.gz file. What should i do now?
