Hi guys, i just installed ubuntu 10.10 on my windows 7 machine and used the option install alongside another operating system. all went well and it seemed to install perfectly updating files ect.

but once it restarted it booted straight into the windows 7 partition and started doing a CHKDSK operation. and now it seems that ubuntu has disappeared.

any help would be great im not to familiar with Ubuntu, or linux in general.

Do you get an option to select an OS when it boots? My dual boot netbook gives me the option for xp/ubuntu but if you dont select one it will just boot into xp.

Did you install ubuntu or did you select to use it off the disk to check your pc will run it correctly. I fell for this the first time i tried to install it :)

Thanks for the reply

nope there is no bootloader at startup it just goes straight into windows. lol and yeah i did do the install option :P

just really weird because the guides i have looked at just say the bootloader menu appears, where i do not get one at all.

all sorted i went into the windows disk manager and noticed that the ubuntu partition was there but was not being recognized and just deleted it and reinstalled to that partition now GRUB shows up. cheers for the help
