Do you all use the new launcher? If so do you set it to hide or always show?

I find it a bit annoying hiding all the time so set it to always show (having just come from W7 this seems more natural).

Does anyone use a different launcher / setup?

Must admit I've gone back to the "classic" interface. Unity just needs more clicks\typing to get the same work done. I will give it another try when Oneric hits and see if its more streamlined. I didn't like the new alt-f2 page, or the fact that you cant hide selected recent documents, or the fact that I kept bringing the launcher up when I moved the mouse too far to the left.

I'm only going to give Unity another try if all of these are present:

- File Edit View... menus permanently displayed, not just on mouse-over.
- Easier to open a separate instance of an app rather than just switch to it (I know it's only one click but I could never remember it).
- The launcher icons detect java windows properly.

If not that then I need the gnome desktop to have:
- No random compiz and gtk-window-decorator crashes.

If not that then I'll move to Xubuntu when 10.10 goes out of support.

Are there any sites that explain these issues you guys have found a bit better, currently running 10.10 but with each update there is a notification of 11.04 and I am tempted.

I have not jumped on it as it took me a while to revert back the gui differences from 10.04-10.10 on my netbook but my new netbook will likely need the latest updates

If you are moving because you don't like unity why not just use the old launcher rather than switch OS?
