Right, I installed 12.04 at the weekend, everything was great! Till I noticed I couldn't really install programs elsewhere on my PC. So my wee 64gb ssd wasn't gonna be enough, so I went to reinstall, making the ssd the / folder and a free 1tb hdd the /home. Easy! Nope! I've installed over 20 times in the past few days. Each time is the same, I get past the boot splash screen then I get a black screen with a flashing ' _ ' . Trying to press any buttons is useless as nothing works. From what I've been reading online, it fails before it even gets to the grub.

This is what I do:
Wipe both 64gb ssd and 1tb hdd.
Make a partition in the ssd, 50gb for /
Make another partition in ssd for swap 6gb
Make a partition in the 1tb hdd of either 1tb or less(tried loads) for /home
Make sure the boot loader is selected for the ssd
Install.

I've tried many combos and even installed the whole thing onto the 1tb drive, that booted into Ubuntu but sorta crashed straight away. I've been over and over and over the web searching and I'm beginning to feel sick and get a sore head its been annoying me that much haha.

Can anyone shed any advice or anything?

Yeah, I've also changed that many times. I've been searching and searching but just can't find any fix online. Asking on here us my last glimmer of hope haha.

If its easy enough to move the hone folder then I'll just install onto the ssd and move it. Ubuntu had a 'how to' on their site, but that didn't seem to work the first time I tried it. Maybe I done something wrong.

64gb is plenty, its my steam folder that I'm worried about haha. But yeah I think I'll try this mounting thing. If its pretty much the same thing then that's all I care about. Just wanted ssd for is, apps and keep the hdd for media downloads.
