ubuntu 7.10 torrent app with remote login setup?

lo,

I got given a dell Optiplex GX270 and am wanting to put linux on it and use it purely as a torrent box. The computer wontbe connected to a keyboard or a mouse so I need remote desktop to it.

Im after a really easy and not to complicated remote desktop program that will be compatible with the linux "server" which can be accessed by my windows XP/Vista machine.

I would also need the ability to send the downloaded files to my windows machine. Is samba the right tool?

im not scared of the terminal, admittedly im know linux expert but ill read round on rtorrent.

I was kinda hoping that I could log onto my windows mahcine and access my linux box through a GUI giving me the ability to browse the torrents in the first place then start downloading. Your suggestion seems do-able... ill have to read up on rtorrent tonight

It's based on torrentflux so the firefox extension works fine(http://www.torrentflux.com/forum/index.php/topic,551.0.html), basically right click a torrent link on your normal desktop pc (or any pc connected to the net) and it will send it to the torrent box or simply use the built in searches.

I can download and view progress of downloads when i'm in work on a web browser....or out and about on my phone.

Either this or use azureuz with the web UI.....but I don't like it as much.

I could use torrentflux bert and use samba shares to move the finished torrent files around the network........ this seems ace, will read up more...

now trying win xp RDP purely because xp was already installed on it. Should be a good compre to torrentflux

I settled on Ubuntu 7.10 then installed WINE so i could used UTorrent. There are alternatives i tested but liked that the best.

It's really easy. I use the firefox extension (http://thinkpond.org/content/view/13/33/) so i can see what's going on all day long remotely and add/manage the torrents.

If you set up Samba (easy guide here, ignore the WINS stuff - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=202605) then you can share out your folder so you can easily get your downloads.

All pretty simple - no need for any SSH/VNC/VNC with SSH access at all this way if you don't want to.

Yeh that helps. I have ran a samamba network before so thats easy to setup. Ill check ** link to that prgram was gonna try torrentflux tommorrow but will check out ** suggestion also.

I have got remote desktop working on xp through Remote desktop protocol iworks well on the LAN but i dont have the opportunity to login through the internet, I could do that with logmein but i wanna run linux so theres no chance of it getting a virus and a smaller chance of it getting hacked if its gonna be running 24/7
