Ubuntu-7.10 under microsoft virtual PC.

Hi Folks

I am attempting to install ubuntu-7.10-desktop under microsoft virtual PC.

However when the installation stats the resolution is screwy as follows.

Is there a way to get this workign?

Ditch MS Virtual PC as its crap and get something decent like VMware Server.

As above, but you'll need to boot into safe VGA mode I think

Cheers working under VMWare server.

For anyone else doing this you will need to istall the VMWARE tools once ubuntu is installaed or you will not be able to change screen resolution

GRR how do i start up a virtual server in VMware server, as i have to connect to a host and thats about it....

Using x64 Vista by any chance? If so then you need to disable driver-signing.

Presuming your on the machine you want to act as the Host, you connect to the local host and then perform any operating you want.

Virtual PC is known not to be great for any OS other than Windows. No idea why that could be - perhaps they dont care about virtualising Linux

I found it was pathetic when trying to install various flavours of Unix, seemed the only thing it could handle was minimal Live CDs. VMWare now has my trade.
