Hi
My ubuntu setup only seems to use odd numbered Kernels
e.g. at the moments its 2.6.27-11-generic

prior to 11 it was 9, then 7

is this ok?

thanks

Briefly, odd-numbered kernels denote unstable cutting-edge versions used for technology testing. Even-numbered kernels denote stable versions.

Actually, the more I think about it, that's how it used to be - not sure if that rule is still being followed.

In kernel version a.b.c-d, that's true of b (2.4 - stable, 2.5 - testing, 2.6 - stable etc.). C and D just get incremembted I believe. Ubuntu went from 2.6.24 to 2.6.27 I believe.

For a decade or more the kernel devs used the eeven-odd numbering scheme. When 2.6 came out they decided not to go to 2.7 and instead work on 2.6 for the foreseeable future.

thanks guys

glad to know my ibex is 'normal'

just a thought though - what about the final number i.e. '11' and previous numbers have all been odd as well - any particular reason none are even numbers?

thanks
