Hi all,

Normally when I installed Ubuntu 9.10 or Mint 8 and choose the option "Require a password to access my home folder" for the home folder encryption, upon first booting into the OS it says "Backup your key by running a command to show the current one". I have now reinstalled a few times and this isn't coming up so I have no idea if the encryption is working or not!

What was the command for showing the current encryption status and what the key is? This is normally the first prompt that pops up when I log in post-install

EDIT: Not sure if Mint 8 actually prompts you to backup the key as I'm used to Ubuntu now. Here is a page showing what I meant - the command is "ecryptfs-unwrap-passphrase" and the screen is shown to you at first logon when using Ubuntu:

All solved thanks to that link. Weird that Mint 8 doesn't confirm this with you on first log on
