its al running very well for me on my Acer Aspire 1353XC, very impressed by the speed it can get out of the machine the start uptime is only just slower than my 13'' 2ghz macbook with 2gbof ram. It has its downsides being video but I understand I can upgrade the graphics card to an ATI mobility 9200/9700. Just ordered 1gb more ram to help things run even more smoothly.

9.10 has been a great experience forme so far and had breathed new life into old hardware, I can't wait to try out Lucid Lynx and see how it handles that.

Specs of the old beast are

14.1 XGA TFT LCD
AMD Athlon XP-M 2400+ (1.8ghz I think)
1.5GB DDR SDRAM (Runs like a dream)
40GB HDD (looking to get an external drive soon.)
64mb onboard graphics
DVD/CD-RW Combo

Just installed a wireless card and it worked straight out of the box which is a first for me with linux.

Grats. I have Ubuntu NBR 9.10 dual booting with WinXP on my Acer Aspire One (1.6ghz, 1.5gb Ram), and it runs infinitely smoother and faster than the XP install on the same machine. I have issues with video (VLC .avi and YouTube etc) but im working on that. Otherwise, yeah, its lovely.

Seems to be the OS of choice on the low spec machines atm.

If your not bothered about fancy screen effects which you may not be able to use anyway why not use Xbuntu. I often use it instead of Ubuntu on lower spec machines as the gui looks similar but it much more lightweight than gnome.

Having no issues at all with this install so far, just been tinkering with my new cowon D2 8gb and handbrake so I can get some movies on it. Its runs great, makes me wonder what it would be like on a new laptop.
