ubuntu and wireless?

If you are getting wireless for linux go for things based on ralink 2500 (54mb), prism I (11mb) or II (54mb) or atheros (54mb) chipsets.

PCI and PCMIA are more likely to be detected then usb in linux, just my experiance.

Other wireless cards with no linux drivers can be run by using ndiswrapper and your windows drivers although not recomended. I have had a netgear usb stick running this way before tho'.

Best way to find out is use the live cd and see if it works.

Cheap PCI wireless cards with linux friendly chipsets can be found for under £20 if you search.

I don't know about your dongle, but ndiswrapper can be compiled with usb support, so it's worth a try. I've just got a Dlink DWL-G650+ working perfectly with ndiswrapper and WPA supplicant. There are linux drivers but they dont support WPA.

It took a long time to sort out, but my recommendation is use the latest versions of ndiswrapper and wpa_supplicant available, and keep config files as simple as possible.

Good luck!
