OK.

I managed to get the SMP client up and running with Ubuntu on VMWare on my X2 4400+.

Everything seems to be working fine - except that the clock on the Ubuntu desktop is running at about 1/5th of the speed it should be

According to FAH I'm doing a frame in just over 2 mins (I wish) but in reality, it's about 10 or 11 mins.

Also, the ubuntu running under VMWare seems to be very jumpy and a bit slow to respond.

Anybody have any idea WTF is going on?

Stan :)

This patch sorted it for me - seems to be an AMD thing

Like you my frame times were getting better and better till I realised

Sorted - thanks Rich.

Running fine now doing a P3025 at about 9 minutes per frame = approx 940 PPD + 1 windows client at approx 30 PPD giving me a total for that rig of around 970 PPD.

That'll do nicely :D

Next step is to set up Ubuntu as dual boot on one of the dedicated folders. If I get that to work then all of the dedicated folders will be doing it and the machines I use regularly will be getting VMwared.

Can't wait to try two cores on the C2Ds

Probably won't be doing any more today. I got home last night full of 15yo Glenlivet and Chilean Merlot courtesy of BA. I went to the shop and bought a couple of pies for supper, they tasted a bit off but in my drunken condition, I decided this wasn't a problem  The stomach cramps and Diarrhoea today, indicate it was more of a problem than I thought. I'm off to bed to feel sorry for myself and hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow and can get all this stuff done - try to make up for all the lost production thanks to BT's silly home hub.

Thanks guys.

I had a bit of a nap this afternoon and woke up feeling hungry - which is a good sign. Had a tin of soup and a couple of bread rolls. Stomach cramps appear to have eased although I'm still doing a fair bit of sitting down - if you catch my drift.

Hopefully, tomorrow, I'll feel up to installing Ubuntu on some of the dedicated Folding rigs (or at least, trying to).

Stan :)
