Either the driver is broken or something has been altered.
Stuff doesn't 'stop working' if nothing has been changed.
Don't believe all the crud about Ubuntu (and Linux) being noob friendly though. It isn't. You will need to learn how things work. Running the odd executable and clicking OK on a dialog won't cut the mustard if you have a problem.
If you don't have time or inclination to untrain from Windows, it's best not to bother. You will only become frustrated.
