hey guys,
I've got a little stack of Ubuntu disks here that I was going to give a few demos to my clients with (just look, saves you £75-100 on that new pc if you use linux....shiny linux....ohhhh......works with .doc files toooo.....) but the system I wanna run it on (DS4 - my uber core duo beast!) doesn't want to play!
neither does my mums neary as uber pc (ds3).

I've seen that SOME people are having issues with the intel chipset these use and I was just wondering if anyone else was having the same problem? does the download/alternative disk fix this?

I'm gonna have a little play with it, see if I can get it working with some of the stuff the websites sujests but I'm guessing one of you are gonna turn around and say "AH HA! that happened to me! you just............." so I thought I'd ask here aswell!

is it due to SATA drives?

I know at work I had to install edgy eft (latest RC) due to SATA incompatabilities

Hi
The problem is the jmicron ide controller. I had the same problem trying to install various linux's on a asus p5b deluxe. The only way i got it to work was by using a sata dvd drive then it worked fine. :D
Hope this helps

I have the same problem. It is the Jmicron PATA.

So far I have Gentoo and Knoppix working.

I guess if you really want ubuntu working, you could boot from knoppix and install from there, or do a network install. Or you could get a PATA to SATA adapter. Or even a USB cdrom or install from a USB stick.

Altho I have disabled JMicron in the BIOS and according to the mobo book, the PATA controller that runs ACPI drives isn't the JMicron one.
