ubuntu hangs on boot + only sees 3gb

My ubuntu hangs on boot for about 30 seconds. Its just a black screen with a flashing line at the top left.

Any idea whats causing it to hang?

Also, ubuntu only sees 3gb out of my 4gb of memory.

fresh install. I didn't MD5 check the .iso.

Stupid me, its the 32bit version.
