Ubuntu help required...

Hi,

I just installed Ubuntu 7.10 x86 on my laptop, during installed it gave some error due to not being connected to the internet at all and was unable to fetch some files(?).

Now, it's running and wireless is set up perfectly but update manager is not showing any updates when I do a check.

Any idea how to fix this so I can update?

So when you run sudo apt-get update it says you have all the latest? What happens when you enter sudo apt-get dist-upgrade?

it just says 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

when i run update manager it tells me i'm all up-to-date, but the cd image was from october so doubtful?

I'm going to try installing it again with network cable plugged in this time.

It's funny, every time I try Linux some annoying bug/issue takes the shine off another wise good desktop OS.

That did the trick, just re-installed it with the wired NIC connected and 186 updates now available.

Hmm, I wonder what was wrong with it. Mysterious...

Sorry I didn't come in on this sooner, if you do not have an internet conection when you install. Then at least sometimes, the repos are not on by defaut, all you have to do is go into software sources or the repositorys in Synaptic or add/remove, then check them to active.
