Ubuntu: Home folder cannot be seen

Anyone ever seen this:

ls: cannot access home: Input/output error
d?????????   ? ?    ?        ?                ? home

root@skynuntu:/# cd /home
bash: cd: /home: Input/output error
root@skynuntu:/#

I noticed the problem when i booted this morning and it wouldnt find the ICEauthority files. I then tried to do a "cd /home" and thats where the fun began.

Any ideas?

Could be a corrupt filesystem or a failing drive. Try running fsck and also check the SMART status of the disk.

Drive looks OK on SMART and FSCK (ran from Live CD). It appears its just that dir that it doesnt like. Any logs that might help anyone?

Is /home on a different partition? What's the output of mount?

Nah it was all on the same partition. I decided to format and re-install as I needed a working OS for work etc. It'll teach me not to backup my /home folder, lost some of my rsync scripts
