Hi all,

I'm hoping for some advice regarding Ubuntu in a Business. From both a management and Windows Domain integration point.

We are using Ubuntu as the software we a running is supported on it.

So far...

  • I can install Cifs-util to access existing storage.
  • I can install the powerbroker identity services to join the domain. This will allow users to login with their domain account and map to the shares.
  • SCCM 2012 has a client which supports Ubuntu. This should allow Hardware and Software inventory.
  • I can use DD to take a image of ubuntu and deploy it via SCCM OSD.

We are talking about 7 Ubuntu computers at the moment. This a drop in the ocean compared to the thousands of Windows computers we support.

What is your advise?

Do any of you guys\girls use powerbroker identity services?

Hi Bursar,

Sorry I should have been clearer..

I want to know what other people are doing.

Are people using powerbroker identity services to bridge linux with Active Directory services?

Are others using SCCM 2012 with Linux sccm client and does it work well?

How are you deploying standardized build images of Ubuntu?

How do you handle patch deployment?

I know we are only talking about 7 computers at the moment but this has the potential to triple.

We use Debian, but for deployment we have an in-house mirror and a custom preseed file. We basically start from a standard Debian net installer, point it at the preseed, and off it goes.

We use LDAP to link to Active Directory, as all we really need is user authentication. We have around 70 Linux users and about 40 Windows users.

That works for us, but your requirements might be different.
