Just trying to install Ubuntu on VMWare so I can give it a spin but it seems to get stuck during installation. It gets past the point of slecting language etc. appears to unpack the kernel but then gets stuck at 1% on unpacking/installing uk-gb-language pack. (or something like that - I am at work not home atm so I can't say exactly)

Has anyone any idea why this happens and how to solve it?

The install is coming of an iso not a CD.

Haven't installed Ubuntu for a long time, but normally during *nix installations, you can hit Alt + F1 to see messages as to what task it's actually performing - or trying to perform. See if Ubuntu hasn't disabled this functionality, and it should help in diagnosing what is causing the install to hang.
