I'm currently running Ubuntu 10.10, and Firefox 3.6.13, and am finding that it just simply will not go to .co.uk tlds.
Take for instance google. I can browse to google.com, google.ie, google.co.jp, etc etc etc, but google.co.uk instantly fails to open stating that firefox can't find the server.
The same is true for any .co.uk domain (including OcUK forums and shop).
It's not a Firefox issue however, as Opera reports exactly the same problem.
Browsing from the same machine (macbook) in either Windows 7 or OS X is fine, as is browsing from the same internet connection on another machine running Ubuntu 10.10. It's definately something to do with this install of Ubuntu, but I'm not really that knowledgable when it comes to *nix, I'm a Windows admin day-to-day.
Really not sure where to start.
EDIT: It's not user specific either, it's system wide that the problem occurs.
