Hi there, so recently i decided to install ubuntu on my rig. which comprises of, a core 2 duo e6750, 2gb ram, and an ati x1950 pro graphics card.

After installing all was fine, however the display was set to 800x600, after many attempts to install the ati graphics drivers, which have told me they have successfully been installed, i am now running the proper display resolution,

this is 1260x1024. however the graphics are pitifully slow, and even scrolling down webpages is a chore. so i'm guessing its not really working.

The restricted driver mananger, says that the driver is in use as well.

Please help, dont want to have to go back to crummy windows, was hoping this would be a breath of fresh air.

Thanks tom.

I'd like to help more but I'm on my way out the door. The above indicates that you're using the Mesa drivers rather than the proprietary ATi ones. You should uninstall from the restricted manager and use a different method for installation. You could try using Envy, a different automated installer.

Heh, nice one :) Compiz (the updated version of Beryl) is great, isn't it. It must fly on your hardware but it still runs great on my Athlon 2600+ Xubuntu box with a lowly 1GB RAM and a 6600GT, which puts Vista to shame really.
