Yesterday I installed Ubuntu on my 'spare' PC (dual boot with XP) so that I could increases my PPD from folding on it. All's fine except that when I installed the proprietary ATI drivers for my X1900XT the display fonts went to absolute hell - they looked blurry and indistinct. When I reverted to the generic driver (which obviously costs me some functionality) the fonts improved back to where they were in the first place.

Anyone come across this problem and know how to fix it?

Thanks...

Not come across the problem but as you have a valid Windows licence you're entitled to use the Microsoft Core fonts. Have a look in the repositories for msttcorefonts. Made my fonts look much nicer than those installed by default.

Thanks, I'll reinstall the ATI driver and try that - although last time it did appear that it was the driver itself causing the fonts to be poorly rendered rather than the fonts being inherently low quality themselves.

Anyone had any joy with getting the ATI drivers installed without font issues?

Well I'm not sure that I notice a difference in the fonts looking better than a default install, but installing msttcorefonts, the ATI CCC and the ATI driver have given me 3D acceleration and properly rendered fonts.

Thanks for the help.
