Before I start; is it worth registering on The Student Room? Or is UCAS something OcUK know a fair bit about?

I applied for 2009 entry, but then got a job sorted for 2009-2010 that’s proper relevant work experience to my course, so I contacted the Uni’s directly who said ‘that sounds good’ and they changed my offers to deferred on UCAS.

My five offers were at three different institutions, with two institutions giving me offers for two different courses but in the same schools (eg Software Engineering VS Applied Computer Science).

In order to get the two choices the right way round (UWE, Plymouth) I had to chose the higher of my two UWE offers. However they said to me something about (can’t remember the exact wording) that if I don’t meet the offer I can change to another course in the same school (like my offer I rejected) which is a common first year anyways.

One of my exams I messed up bigtime and also one of my subjects the department has been incompetent the entire course, not gonna say any more but lets just say that my “C” at AS (after it had been moderated down twice, with that mark only being given in April 2009) was the highest in the class.... so I doubt I’ve met my offers :(

Right; that’s the background out of the way... the questions:
  • I’ve heard (no sauce) that this year you can login to Track before going into school at 8:30 20/08 and find out whether you’re in or not but it won’t tell you your grades. Is this true and from when is this?
  • Do I do the whole phoning up and website’ing stuff whilst still at school after getting the paper results? They’ve got computers and I’ll have my iPhone on me, but homes a 2min drive away and has a faster internet connection without Nazi style filtering.
  • Will UWE/Plym have put me on a lower entry course automatically if I didn’t make it? Or will I be ringing them to beg?
  • Clearing VS begging.... is it best to contact the Uni’s I applied to directly (and sobbing!) before going through UCAS clearing?
  • Is it worth me going through clearing at all as I’m taking a gap year.... or after I’ve rung the Uni’s and got nowhere I guess I could ring UCAS and say that I’m reapplying for 2010, and then I’ll have the bonus of a years relevant work experience on my applications. And there's then also the possibility of retaking certain modules.

Ooh, that's quite a long ramble... anyone still reading?

TY

I had a different situation to you (exam board lost my exam paper and didn't fess up until the day before results day), but in my case it was a call to the university and all was sorted (they took my predicted grade). That may or may not help with your connundrum, but I'm just putting it out there (this was over 10 years ago too, so much may have changed).

If you meet your offer and the university accepts you, then ucas track homepage will change to a "Congratulations, ... has accepted your place..." on the morning.

Not sure of the exact time, and the actual grades aren't posted either.

Thanks philjohn :)

Ah right, I'd heard from a teacher at another school (same LEA) that in previous years Track updates at about 7AM on the day, but this year it was being done a day or two earlier (because of the results being a week later this year)... but I've not seen or heard anything else to support that.
