anyone got any experience of this motherboard P55A UD3 and cpu coolers that will fit without blocking the ram slots? currently have a l'il ole CM Hyper 212, but thinking of adding something a bit beefier and trying to oc the bejesus outta my cpu :p

but thus far any other coolers i look at, (akasa venom to name 1) going by their dimensions they're going to block the first 2 ram slots! then again i could be doing my measurements wrong!!

any suggestions folks?

for overclocking the TRUE or TITAN are regarded as bet, and I think you can mount them either way round so should be ok?

looking at the titan, i assume you me the titan fenrir evo, going by its dimensions it looks to be actually bigger than the Venom, in which case i don't think it'll work either. and when you say they can be mounted either way round, i assume you mean with the fan pointing either west/east or north/south?

as for the TRUE, is that the thermalright true black you are referring to?

TRUE = thermalright ultra extreme. Most people use one of those two so they should fit most boards. when I say either way round I mean you can mount them in any direction so either the width or height is what will go from right to left on your board.

What ram are you running, as most of these coolers have a heat plate on bottom, then heat pipes that go up into the heatsink, which is normal plenty high enough above the RAM?

They arent that high, can you post a picture of your setup, of the RAm area, from an angle where you could see how high they come up, preferably with some cooler that you know the dimensions of, for comparisons sake :D

I ran a TRUE black for a while, no issues with very tall ocz reaper ram, even if i wanted to use 12gb of ram, the latest iteration of this cooler is the thermalright venomous x, a very highly rated cooler. Im now on a prolimatech super mega, fits ok with 6gb installed but 12gb of ram is a no no.

head on view, the hyper 212 is far from the biggest cooler on the market and is nearly covering the first ram slot :(

from the side and the ripjaws are a good few mil 'into' fan, if you know what i mean :p

Some one had a build log with this motherboard and a titan fenrir evo, barely a rizzla paper between the fan and the top of the XMS3 ram.

any idea what height those XMS3 are?

must have a look at the dimensions of the venomous x again.

cheers for the info so far all.

yea just found out they are slightly lower than the ripjaws i'm using, so thats the fenrir evo ruled out, 1 more cooler option bites the dust

seeming more and more likely i may have to look at the h50 or 70, and not liking either of those 2 options

Yep, the vx is very good, the TRUE was 64mm wide, heres a pic of it fitted onto my board with ocz reapers.

As you may notice, the ram was in the wrong slots when i took that pic, (should have been in the orange slots),:o but it did let me know that i could fit more ram if i needed it, there was about 5mm between the fan and the ram stick, worst thing about reapers is the gargantuan heatpipe fitted to them.

if you only use one fan you could stick it on the other side of the heatsink? If you mut use two, you could use one of those Scythe (i think) thin fans that is about half the depth of a normal fan, and that would leave your ram slots free. I know it would slightly decrease cooling performance, but if you want your ram slots then it might be a better plan.

well i aint planning on adding extra ram just yet. what i'm thinking, and i could be wrong, is that i've been able to run my cpu @ 3.6 on stock volts 24/7 without any problems on the hyper. so hoping with a better cooler and a few notches on the volts i should be able to get it considerably higher.

indeed, should work. extra RAM will basically disble your OC so its not worth adding unless you are rendering or soemthing that benefits more from loads of RAM than cpu speed.

Well all I really do is read this forum! And play a bit of bfbc2, also it's been suggested to me that I may have struck lucky and have a good oc'ing cpu. I'd been toying with selling up and going sandybridge but I'm gonna give my i5-750 a chance to prove how high it'll go. Just a shame OcUK don't stock the VX!!
