well i travelled down to basel yesterday morning at 6 got back at 3 this morning, had a great day out apart from the result
fair play to basel, they took there chances very well and looked very dangerous going forward, but boro looked really comfortable on the ball for the first 40mins, really expected us to come away with at least 1 goal (i punted on 1-0 boro)
about the trouble that occured i was watching it, some arguement happened between a basel fan, boro fan and then a steward stepped in something was said, and next minute a steward was just flat out on the ground, a little bit of fighting went on (resulting in 3 stewards all knocked out
) and then the riot police come up, the guns they had fired bean bags (dont know if anyone has seen jackass when johnny knoxville gets shot by one, but i imagine they hurt) and they had big canisters of tear gas, the trouble was stopped, but the riot police remained there for the rest of the game.
the banner had boro fans in stiches but was dropped down onto the tier below after a few minutes. for anyone that wants to see it.
SWEARING IN LINK!!
was a shame about the little bit of trouble because all day we had been drinking with basel fans etc, and they were very nice people indeed (but all said mendieta is boros best player, dont know what they have been watching lately) and i had a great laugh drinking in basel, beer is expensive like 17swiss francs for 2 lagers
but soon everyone had noticed a spar down the road, 4 cans of lager for 3 swiss francs
cant wait for the return leg gunna be 3-0 to boro
anyway what was john barnes saying on channel 5 we were right next to him, boro fans had a few "geordie reject" songs for him
edit- just found this
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/tees/4863490.stm about the trouble at the game, its a shame like that a few people want to cause trouble when the rest of the fans were on their best bahaviour
