Hi all. I hope someone can help me out with this one. It's been doing my head in and I've been at it for nearly 2 weeks, it seems no matter what I do I can not get the ultra fast boot to work. Always tells me your graphics cad does not support UEFI GOP and csm disable.

Mobo
Asrock 970 extreme3 r2.0
Bios p1.60 (latest)

GFX
powercolor R9 270 scs3 2gb ddr5 silent fanless

RAM
8gb ram. 2x4gb dual channel. 1866 ddr3

CPU
AMD FX8320. Running stock with a corsair h55 liquid cooler.

HDD
Muskin 120gb (100% health with ssd life)
320gb Sata2 hdd. Be changing this to a 1tb WD next week

I have windows 8.1 pro 64bit installed in UEFI mode. SSD definitely set to that GPT partition thingy.

Boot order
Windows boot manager (SSD)
Rest is disabled.

It works no problem with fast boot. Which has CSM Disabled. So I know the card works with that disabled.

My motherboard does not have on board graphics so can't even test that way.

I have contacted asrock. They been trying to help but nothing makes a difference.

I have contacted powercolor. Send some details they wanted but I know I won't hear anything till Monday about that.

It does say on the box UEFI READY. and on powercolor website.

My vbios is 015.041.000.000.000000 (113-C6300100-x27)

Has anyone else had a problem getting this working. Or any tips on what else I could try. I really would like to use ultra fast boot. My computer boots in 25 seconds anyway but if it can go faster then I want it to.

Thanks guys.

Little update so far. Been googling (even more). Just found out by what I read. You need a graphics card that supports UEFI to have fast boot working and also for the CSM disable option to work. So my card is working then as fast boot works 100%. Not had 1 problem with that. But still don't know what to do. Is it asrock that need to update the bios on my board or is it powercolor's problem. Still stumped on this.

had this too, the gpu needs to support UEFI boot

my Powercolor 79xx AMD series did not support this my 78x NVidia ones do

tbh I wouldn't lose sleep over it, it does not make much of a difference over fast Boot, Asrock's fast boot is very fast as it is.

Oh ok. First time I've heard the reference to uefi boot. Is there even a way to find out what cards have that. I just thought the card had to support UEFI GOP.

Sorry uefi boot as in uefi gop

Couldn't get them working on the amd cards, tried tons of things, updating the bioses (even customs) one card instead of 2, popped in the nvidia cards and it worked straight away

Got an update from powercolor. Pasted below.

"
Thanks for your supply photos, I have checked your card information and BIOS information. Your card BIOS supports UEFI function. And form GPU-Z photo, the BIOS version is correct. If possible, could you use GPU-Z to dump graphic card BIOS and mail it to us to check? Please refer attached picture.
"
So my card does support it then.

I've sent him my vbios dump. So another 24 hours before I hear anything.... Time zone stuff. They finish work before I get up.

Another update. Pasted from email.

" Hi,

I have compared your dump BOIS and our BIOS which I had downloaded from server. Both of two BIOS are the same and BIOS had support UEFI function. If graphic card has supported UEFI function, the compatible problem mostly should contact MB vender to get support. I have flashed your BIOS in another R9 270 graphic card and it can be booted into Win8 UEFI system. I also have checked your MB BIOS list in website and the newest version is improved the Ultra Fast Boot compatibility. I guess problem might be compatible problem with MB BIOS.

Best Regards "

So I'm just waiting on asrock now.

Another update, looking good so far... (for anyone that is interested in this.

Asrock asked me to CC thjem into an email to the guy I've been speaking to at PowerColor, betwwen them both they have very happily agreed to supply the same card I have to Asrock for them to test in the same motherboard I have, so this might take a few weeks but the are happy to look into this ..

hopefully the Asrock engineers in Taiwan will get the same problem I have, and work it out, so I am assuming its a case of putting in some code in the motherboard bios to unsterstand Powercolor GFX cards when it comes to using UEFI GOP..

I'll update when I hear some new news, but this might be a few weeks tho
