For some reason, when using the VGA Cable - pretty much the only cable worth using with the monitor because composite is poop on a stick - there is tearing.

There is two types, and one of them I can get rid of:

The first is the tearing between the top of the screen and the bottom. This is easily resolved by either turning the monitor on and off, or by cycling through the input sources.

The second is that there is a small section of the screen at the top which tears horizontally. It's not the screens fault because it happens no matter what 1:1 resolution I use.

Oh and my monitor will no longer go to 1:1 pixel mapping in 1920x1200 on VGA after trying out the component connection. IT ALWAYS FILLS THE SCREEN no matter what 1:1, Aspect, or fill option I select. Maybe my Xbox is now outputting differently because of me messing with the component cable.

I'm really annoyed lol.

Ill have a go now.

I never noticed the thin band of tearing on the screen either til today.

You can see it when you pull the dash menu up and a one inch band will lag behind as it pops out.

You can see it in games too when the image is showing vertical lines.

Well I got the 1:1 of 1920x1200 back.

I still notice that any wide screen resolution has the horizontal banded 1 inch tear at the top of the xbox image :/

If I set 1280x1024 and make it standard (square not wide screen) there is no tearing. It only happens on wide screen resolutions. 1280x720 in aspect ration will have the band of tearing, but it will be half an inch big not as big as 1920x1200.

Off and on again usually fixes the tearing for me.

If you can't sort it out, call up Dell and have them replace it.

the componenet on the dell is really lame though isnt it? and id have to run it at 720p too cos it doesnt use 1080p.

oh and the band of horizontal tear is on everything; well i expect it is as it happens on the dashboard too - noticeable when you press the sphere on the controller and the side dash pops up.

It happens here on my 2405 too, but I put up with it as jaggies aren't as apparent as they are on component.

I think playing with the menu makes it go away, but I can't be sure.

I doubt it's a fault, more a build defect. Suppose I could get dell to replace it, though they'd probably send a 2407, and that has awful component, so if the VGA splits, then I'm stuck! :(

When you select 1920x1080 do you say "yes this looks fine" first time or say "no this looks pants" then let it do something (not sure what it does) and ask you again? Mine looks a hell of a lot better after I've told it that it looks pants.

It's most likely changing the reference level to Advanced.

Probably wrong though ;)

Right tried it myself, and selecting no when changing the resolution to 1920x1080 causes it to come back with the same resolution, but the image cropped and stretched. The silver sides of the dash are missing...it is cropped so that most of the 'system' tab is cut off the screen...identical crop on all sides.
Awful!
Perhaps your TV/Monitor likes this signal though Zefan.

will have to try that. Putting my 360 on my 2405 at the weekend

I've just sold my 2407HC for a Viewsonic 2835wm for the same reasons.. and going upto a 28" 2ms panel (even though I it's TN) for not a lot more money has proved to be a very good move..

Saying that, Component on the viewsonic is as pants as the dell, but VGA is greatly improved, not going to help the OP, except to confirm what he already knows, the tearing seems to be bad on the 2407..

I assume you mean this for the component??
If I do this on mine, for 1080p, and say 'no' it then tries 720p... which may explain why it looks better, depending on your display of course..
