Spent the last few days using the top spec iMac 24" (before the upgrade recently) and am falling in love!

Im now tempted to get a good spec iMac (not sure on size yet) and either get a cheap windows based laptop to carry around, or just use my Asus Eee.

I hate trying out technology :(.

At the moment the idea is;

Top spec iMac 24" and use Asus Eee
Top spec iMac 20" and get a cheap windows based laptop

Damn you Apple!

Yeah running windows on it atm, its absolutely amazing.

I originally thought 24" was too big but after using it, it isnt at all!

The Asus Eee should be OK for when i need something to carry around, but wont run all Apps.

But now im leaving College, i shouldnt need just Windows based anyway..so if i was to get the desktop i guess if i ever needed the laptop i could get a cheap one!

The top spec iMac looks very tasty, especially if i want the odd game.

What spec did you have the 2.8ghz (same as this)?

^ I already have the Eee running windows.

And no it wont just be running windows, its just because i was testing out what the iMac could do to be honest.

And yes i was planning on getting a MBP but for similar price or a bit more, i could get a top spec iMac.

At the minute i dont even use a desktop.

Buy a MBP and have the best of both worlds?

:)

Thats what i was thinking, but then im also thinking about how hot they get, so it'd need to be on a case or a table to use it properly. It's not the smallest laptop, so again getting bigger as we go.

For about 100 quid more or so you can get a top spec iMac which is VERY tempting looking at prices.

I was set on the MBP a few weeks ago until i started to use this iMac 24" :(.

If i was to get the iMac, i could always get a second hand macbook at some point if i need portability (although got the Eee too..) and also even get a cheap replacement laptop.

Think im swaying towards the iMac;

24" iMac

* 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
* 2GB memory
* 500GB hard drive1
* 8x double-layer SuperDrive
* NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS with 512MB

£1,209.08

vs

15" Macbook Pro

* 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
* 1440 x 900 resolution
* 2GB memory
* 200GB hard drive1
* 8x double-layer SuperDrive
* NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics with 256MB SDRAM

£1,104.50

Personally I'd get an MBP and buy 4Gb of Ram from OCUK, it's either Mac Pro or MacBook for me, I see iMac as pretty much the same as an MBP, but not portable.

But I spose that's down to you, I like portable stuff. If you bought the MBP you could sell the Eee as an MBP can run Windows via boot camp. (while still having a portable device)

If you're worried about MBP hard drive space an external drive will do you nicely too. :)

I have no desktops at all.

I have C2D HP Laptop that should be getting repaired, so atleast i have that as well, and wont be selling the Eee.

And the iMac spec comlpetely kills the MBP :p.

And think i may just save money and get a macbook/macbook pro at a later date tbh.

Really liked using the iMac.

Although could all change soon :p.

I know its the Hardware section, but what must-have software is there?

So far thinking;

Aperture 2
Final Cut Pro
iWork (or Office)
CS3 Suite
.mac

Any others? :)
