UHD blu-ray build

Hi all

I'm thinking about going UHD blu-ray at some point, but I'm really struggling to get my head around it.

I'd originally assumed that if I added an HDMI 2.0 monitor and a UHD reader to my rig, I'd be good to go but the Cyberlink advisor tool is saying I need an Intel SGX CPU and an advcanced protected audio and video path.

Does this mean UHD won't work on Ryzen, and doesn't support sound cards?

Thanks!

What graphics card do you have? Ryzen should be fine and so should your screen

Edit: does your screen support HDCP 2.2? This might be needed too thinking about it

It might be worth checking if anyone else has had a great deal of success with this in the first instance. I did the same with a Blu-ray build when it was in it's infancy and found it an absolute nightmare. It actually got to the stage where it was easier for me to rip the software into an unprotected mkv 30 minutes before I wanted to watch it and then just watch the file / delete it when I was done.

Ultimately it came down to the fact that the manufacturer of my blu-ray drive just stopped making firmware updates for it and it couldn't get past the ever changing copy protection despite having an original disk, paid for software, and a real drive. I got round it by buying a second newer blu-ray drive and that worked for several months but then again the firmware updates just stopped and the playback issues came back. After that I just gave up.

Potentially this is no longer the same, but as you are already finding the sheer amount of protection on these disks is insane and it just seems to be a nightmare when combined with a PC. Given how cheap they now are and the fact that black Friday is coming, it might be worth considering an Xbox One S instead as these can play 4k discs straight out of the box. With some of the deals going on them at the minute they represent incredible value for money. Especially if you buy one of the 500GB versions and sell all the bundled games it includes if you really just want a uhd player.

It means that cyberlink doesn't support ryzen, but I dont think there are any other pc uhd players available

Thanks everyone!

Looks like it's probably too early to dip a toe in the water if Cyberlink is the only game in town. My 1080 should be more than up to the task, but would definitely struggle with gaming at 4k.

It's more that it states that you need specific intel kaby lake processors (and probably coffee lake processors) to be able to take advantage of UHD (netflix also has the same requirement) which is pretty much a DRM based system limiting the use to certain processors.

Also, aren't the only UHD capable BD drives only available in Japan at the moment.
