So with the current batch of monitors available what would you recommend.

I get a UHD monitor without G-Sync (probably this? MG28UQ) and wait for the new UHD G-Sync Asus are releasing later this year.

Unless someone knows of a UHD with G-Sync that is out now?

Or go from something like the ASUS PG279Q now and then not be able to afford the new UHD G-Sync when they come out (hopefully this year)

I do a lot of web design, some video editing and gaming. So really need a versatile monitor.

You can see my PC setup in my sig, am about to install my ASUS ROG 1080ti Poseidon, literally just arrived.

Keen to get IPS I just think its probably a better fit for me. If im going to wait for the new UHD G-Sync then my budget it around the £400 mark and if im not going to wait then could stretch to £900

Interestingly you didn't mention an ultra wide 3.5K monitor, like the Acer Predator X34A. Personal choice, of course, but when you get to really expensive monitors my choice would always be to 34" UW. In my opinion UW is the absolute perfect format for a large monitor and the predator also has G-Sync. Course you could save a lot by not getting G-Sync, but it depends what games you play or more specifically what frame-rate they will run at with the larger resolution. The games I play I didn't really notice any difference in going to 3.5K but you might.

Thanks for the reply.

I did consider a 34UW but was worried it would be too big. Might reconsider it. There are very slim pickings around at the moment. Might pop out tomorrow and see if any shops have any out on display I can look at.

If possible try UHD/4K before you buy - everyone will be a bit different but personally I couldn't get on with UHD as a primary monitor and went back to a 2560x1440 screen though the UHD screen gets roped in for some productivity tasks at times and for certain games where I'm using a controller.

Yeah I wasn't convinced by them, but was just trying to future proof a little because I've just spent a small fortune upgrading everything.

I think I might go for the ASUS ROG Swift PG348Q. I am a bit of a ROG fanboy :D, and my mobo, graphics card, kb, mouse are all rog... So my OCD might drive me crazy if my monitor isn't ROG haha.

Having said that I have made up my mind and then 30 minutes later changed it again so many times over the past week. But the PG348Q looks good and has decent spec so should last a while, and then hopefully when its time for an upgrade there is a bit more choice about.

I've changed my mind again. :(

I am normally very decisive.

Think the ASUS ROG PG279Q might be better. Its a little cheaper also LOL

Bit the bullet and ordered the ASUS ROG PG279Q. No turning back now! Thanks for all the input :-) Monitors are a bloody minefield.

Ok so after having my new monitor for 24 hours I can happily say that the 1440 is a great resolution and I am glad i skipped the UHD.

Desktop and programs are perfect in 1440 any higher and it would make everything too small on a 27" monitor.

So my feedback is unless you are going for a large monitor I would say at least 32" UHD res is too high for general PC usage. Maybe for gaming it would be alright. 1440 is more than enough from my 24 hours of experience LOL.

Thanks again to everyone for the advice. Extremely happy with this monitor (ASUS ROG PG279Q)!
