UK Car hire

Hi folks

Me and the missus are flying into the UK in July for a couple of weeks and need to hire a car (we will be going from SE to SW to NW to SW and then finally back to the SE before flying back), where is the best place to hire from these days?

Arrive 6am 11th July, Depart 12pm 25th July.

Use a comparison site then take out additional excess insurance from elsewhere. Excess insurance usually £40 for a year rather than up to £15 a day with car hirer.

Do you need the car at the airport? If so maybe check the airport site to see if the one you choose has a desk. I always use enterprise as they will pick you up and take you to the shop but have never tried the others.

I'd recommend Europcar. Usually pretty competitive and good service.

I hate them at Heathrow. Very slow. It is not entirely their fault the level of international visitors really slows things down.

Sticking with Hertz Gold from now on.

I use Enterprise when I hire in UK, always get excellent customer service with them and free upgrades.

I used Avis at Heathrow recently, had a good experience. Had to wait a bit at the terminal for their shuttle bus but it was all smooth after that. Polite staff, offered me a choice of vehicle and they had people available in the car park to answer further questions and help get you on your way.
