Hi,

If I'm buying an electrical Item from Hong Kong, is there any kind of adapter I need for the Plug?

It would seem they have a 220v supply and the UK is 230v and we use the same type of plug. Does the 10v difference matter?

Thanks

From a quick google, Hong kong appears to use UK style plugs and sockets, probably cos it was uk soil until recently.

Their supply seems to be 220v 50 hz, so i would say if its a decent appliance it should be designed to work over a wide voltage range and would probably work in the UK

UK voltage can be upto 252 volts within the regs.

Ps. European supplys were/are 220v and their appliances work over here.

AFAIK only thing you could have trouble with is 115v or 60hz appliances

115v you would just need a tranny plug / adapter or something

60hz - lots of devices are designed to run at 50 & 60 hz, but if not, running a 60hz device at 50hz can cause problems.

i think thats to do with the fact that countries such as china manufactures so much of the stuff and with HK being so close, the sellers from HK can get the parts at a much cheaper price.
