UK Online have been trialling fastpath for the first 100 ADSL2+ users to request it. I managed to get on the trial, and the tier 3 / Customer Solutions netadmin who is running the trial, Dan, has been a god-send. It's great to finally talk to someone who understands what you're saying (techie stuff), AND is willing to experiment with you.

He's put me on fastpath with noise margins of 0 and 3 (minimum 0dB, target 3dB) and my SYNC has much improved. My errors are still minimal (I have a great line) and I'm having no trouble with disconnects/resyncs or packet loss. All's working fine and my throughput is a stable 2.3 MB/sec.

DSL Status: UP DSL Modulation Mode: Auto DSL Path Mode: FAST Downstream Rate: 21204 Kbps Upstream Rate: 1023 Kbps Downstream Margin: 3 db Upstream Margin: 9 db Downstream Line Attenuation: 22 Upstream Line Attenuation: 12 Downstream Transmit Power: 21 Upstream Transmit Power: 12 LOS Errors: 0

Hopefully they'll offer Annex M soon. If they do I've no reason to migrate to Be Pro any more. Either way, I just wanted to show off the new stats and congratulate UK Online for listening to their customers. They had a shaky few months until recently, but things are definitely back on the up :D

Yeah I joined last year before the new 16 meg package came out. They're actually sending me 24 meg down (advertised at 22) because my line was good enough to handle it. Even though my SYNC is under 22 megs, on an actual 22 meg cap I get even less than I do now. Basically there are more bits available so I can sync higher even though I never actually hit the 22/24 mark.

Only new customers are restricted to the 16 meg package, but even then I've heard (can't say if it's true) that if your line is decent they'll give you 22 megs or whatever anyway. I think it's just a way to help stop the "I paid for 'up to' 22 megs and only sync at 12, so they lied" crowd.

UKOnline have allowed fastpath since they first released ADSL2+ (I was the first customer activated during the initial UKO trials so you can trust me on this one).

Perhaps they dropped support for it at some point but I definitely had fastpath on my line.

It must have been dropped then mate, because before the trial started this week, I'd never been allowed fastpath since I joined (September 2007). Not for lack of asking either! A netadmin from tier 3 (Dan) is currently running an advertised trial to decide whether UKO are going to offer fastpath on their ADSL2+ (again?).

Very odd. To be honest, it was all starting to go downhill as I left. And as soon as Be came into the area I jumped ship.

Just looking at some of my old posts on the ADSLGuide forums. Brings back memories.

Apologies if I sounded a bit abrupt in my previous post btw.

You didn't sound abrupt :) I know what you mean about UKO going downhill, or rather I can imagine. I've had a TON of trouble with them messing my config up etc, several times. Once you get hold of tier 3 you're OK again, but it's hard to do lol

I'm still likely to jump to Be Pro once my contract's up but in the last month, to give them their due, UKO have really improved. Mostly it has to be said because this guy in tier 3 has given out his email and you now have direct access to the real netadmins, not some script monkey on the phone :)
