UKIP move up to third in polls....

It's not surprising really, UKIP is becoming what the conservative party "should" be, all the main parties are too similar now.

This. If you value small government, personal responsibility and freedom, then the conservative party is no longer the party for you (as an article said not too long ago).

Some of the Nigel Farage videos on youtube where he's laying into members of the European parliament are pretty funny, and somewhat commendable but whether or not that attitude sticks if the party sees large scale success is another thing. The top three parties are much of a muchness nowadays anyway - it would be nice to see something different.

"Look at all this ****, This isn't British people doing this. I shouldn't say it but it's the ****** Eastern Europeans doing it, they have no respect for the area and don't give a damn".
I'm fairly sure that litter was a problem in this country before 2004.

And NO the councillor isn't your typically whitey, He's of Asian descent !
'Human being is racist' shocker.

I'm with UKIP when it comes to Europe, but I get really quite unsettled by their Little Englander and petty racist undertones. Nigel Farage I don't hold accountable for that - I think he's taken the party as much as he can from all that 'orrible stuff.

I still vote UKIP but I don't like that the petty little reactionaries do too.

I'm with Halk on this, I voted UKIP last general election as I wanted to vote but couldn't bring myself to back any of the main three.

I'm not keen on the racist "aftertaste" that seems to run through the party mind. Then again, anyone who even suggests trying to sort out uncontrolled immigration in this country is immediately branded a racist.

Tories seem to have lost the way and UKIP seem to align more with what I think, so have also voted for them in past elections and will continue to do so. Also hope that others fed up with the Tories are going will also think the same on voting day, even just as a protest vote. I don't consider UKIP racist. They are just looking out for the countries best interest imo and if that means confronting immigration head on then so be it. Too much branding going on these days and oh you mustn't say this or that or else your a bad racist.

I will be voting UKIP at the next election. It will be the first time I have voted against the Conservative party.

I don't consider myself to be anything other than a natural Tory but that party doesn't exist at the moment.

I've never noticed any racism, xenophobia, or whatever. There's nothing wrong with taking a reasonable and sensible approach to immigration.

Currently reading Nigel Farage's book.

I don't believe in protest voting, but I do believe in voting. I did a fair bit of thinking at the last election, about whether I could bring myself to vote - i'm not happy with any party's manifesto or, in the case of the main three, how they actually behave when they get into power.

So UKIP really was about being the "least worst" to me. I just think it's a very very sad state of affairs when people are voting for who they think will make the least mess rather than who will do the most good.

What swayed me the most with UKIP is their policies towards Europe. Whilst they mean well I can't see them being able to make a huge difference domestically if they did have any power, simply on virtue of there being too much of a mess already.

I think without Farage they'd be a bunch of petty racists. If you look back between 5-10 years ago in their history they had a load of gaffes in the papers with people associated with the party being mental reactionaries.

Farage has killed that nonsense off, however I still feel that some of them are suffering 'all these brown people can't say anything these days it's not political correct, no, it's all madness I say' in silence, and certainly I think they're the go-to party for any Little Englanders.

I'd happily take a whig party though - orange book LibDems and UKIP and the David Davis type tories.

The problem is its easy for UKIP to make outlandish promises and set impossible goals just to sound good to people, because their not going to win so they will never have to back them up. As the Libdems recently found out trying to drum up votes and popularity with infeasible policy is great until you end up in power.

If UKIP won the next election and did what they promise it would ruin the country because while their manifestos/policys may be designed to appeal to voters they are not in the country's best interests, ruining our relationship with the rest of Europe would not be in our benefit.

I think the majority of people in this country are euro-sceptic. They might not all want a full on withdrawal from the EU but they want to see an increase in British sovereignty.

You only have to look at the opinion poll bounce the conservatives had when Cameron refused to sign up to the revised EU finance agreement.
