Hello

A question for OcUK.

I've been reading through the manual for the Ultima and note it has a SIM card slot so you can put a mobile broadband SIM card in there. I also note however that this is a factory option for the module itself.

So the question is, does the laptop have this module installed or would I need to order it and install it myself? I know I could probably take the cover off and look myself but I don't have tools available and wouldn't know what to look for and it seems you need software to enable it anyway.

I know I could just put the mobile broadband dongle into a USB slot but I'd much prefer to keep it clean and use the SIM card slot.

If you need to order it then can OcUK provide these and how much are they?

Thanks

Mike

Hey Mike I too was wondering the same thing, if you look on the bottom side of the laptop there is a fairly large black screw attaching a smaller panel to the main one, this is removable and its where the SIM card goes, I haven't had a look at it properly, but I did remove the main panel as I had to install the wireless adaptor.
On my laptop there is a black slot where you can put the SIM card into, however I don't have a suitable SIM card to test it out with, so I don't know if it works, if you have any idea on what type of SIM card is compatible I would be grateful.
Sorry if my response wasn’t of much help.

Hi all,
I've been wondering about this aswell. I downloaded the 3G Watcher program from the Clevo site, powered down the laptop and inserting my USIM (3G version of a SIM Card, o2 UK), but alas, the program couldn't find any devices :(
I've checked the Device Manager, and there does seem to be something called the 'Sierra Wireless Aircard HSDPA Modem', which suggests that the modem is most probably installed.
If anyone has had any luck, and what they did to get it working, it would be most helpful :D

Well it's nothing definite but from one of the other re-sellers of this chassis it is charged as a seperate (special request) option that is not normally shown in the drop down customize lists. I'd imagine its the same on ours.

Looks like there's definite interest in this. I'm currently in the US too so might do some local research into it and see if I can pick one up cheap :)

I'm assuming the modem comes pre-installed like you found out but the seperate module enables you to insert a SIM card? But then again you say you've managed to insert a SIM card already?

I have been told that the SIM Card slot is standard on all M860TU's, but you needthe modem in the Mini-PCI slot for it to function. Seeing as this might void my warranty, I haven't taken the bottom cover off yet to check. Those who had to remove the cover to install the wireless card, did you see anything in the Mini-PCI slot?

The SIM card slot is fitted as standard but requires a 3G Module to be installed (5 minute installation). I will have to find out what price they are.

Clevo UK have now sent me a reply, these modules are in stock and cost £201 plus VAT and shipping.

Seems a little steep :( guess having a dongle sticking out the back of a USB port doesn't look too bad after all lol

Yup that's waay too expensive but they may be the only one that will work. I'm still looking for an alternative method at the moment.

That's great to hear Slackworth. Like I said before, it would be great to see some accessories for these lappies.
Also, would it be possible to look into stocking PCI-E Turbo Memory II?
Thanks in advance
