Hi everyone, new to this forum so I hope I'm putting this in the right area. I'm after a new gaming machine that I can also stream films etc. I'm looking at the "Ultima Extreme Envy V2" Intel Core i7 4770K @ 4.4GHz Overclocked Haswell Quad Core Gaming PC". It seems pretty good to me, is it? Would this manage BF4 and Call of Duty Ghost and pretty much anything else out there? So many machines out there I'm going around in circles. Any recommendations to upgrade it or leave it as is? Thanks in advance.

Yes - a 4.4ghz 4770k and a 780 will eat BF4 and CoD for breakfast.

Upgrades: both are quite large games, so if you want to put them on the SSD, you may want to get a 250gb one. And don't forget to add the OS, obviously. You won't need a sound card: the Sniper motherboard has excellent onboard sound.

Obligatory question: would you be willing to build this yourself?

Fulax has got your covered :) As he said the system will eat current games.

As he suggested Id opt for the 250gig SSD

If you could build it yourself Im guessing its around £1300-£1400, im at work or I would work it out in a basket.

Thanks for replies. I was thinking of a self build but never done one before. Watched plenty of builds on YouTube and think I would be ok with it. I would just need a list of everything in total I would need and then I'd probably give it ago. Is watercooled better than fans? All I really want is a gaming machine that can handle anything out there at full spec. I would like it to have an intel i7 and Nvidia card as thats what I've been told I should have, unless you know different. Budget around £2000 but that would also included monitor, hopefully.

My laptop is about to die, so I'll make a recommended spec when I get home if no one else has by then.

Would you want it to be mATX, like the Ultima Envy build or does size not matter?

Sorry to sound dim mATX means? Size doesn't matter no, is the envy in a smaller case then?

Ok, just read what it is. No size doesn't matter.

144hz monitor so BF4 looks lovely and smooth.

A 290 makes sense over a 780, as you'll get better performance in BF4 and they're on offer at the moment.

The PSU is platinum-rated and will take another GPU.

EDIT: Less beautiful but cheaper alternative:

I'm a sucker for good looks, so I'd go with the £1900 one even though it offers the least value for money. By some distance.

In terms of your needs I'd say the £1650 one is ideal. That's assuming you just want to put everything together, maybe give your CPU a bit of an overclock, then fire up BF4 and play.

Lee's spec comes in at around £1800 with the monitor, and offers a decent balance between looks and price to performance. Although I would go for a 290 instead of the 780.

The £2000 obviously offers the best performance, but if we're being honest two 780s is overkill for what you want.

The This Week Only offers have just changed and slightly confused matters. Would you be buying these parts before next Wednesday? If so, you could change a few things to make use of the new deals. There are some excellent 780 deals.

Yes I would be buying before next Wednesday. If I don't need 2 780s' could I use 1 780 Ti instead, I believe that to be slightly better?. Also would I need DVD for installs? Also case mentioned in £2000 buy is out of stock.
Thanks

So it is, apologies.

Two 780s would beat a single 780ti quite easily.

This is what I would go for right now. It'll eat up anything you throw at it and look good in the process. The 780 is £40 off - I've got the same model myself and it's an absolute beast of a card. There is a reference 780ti on offer for £500. You could get that instead, but it would be overkill.

Right one last thing. Referring to my original question. Is this system as good as the "Ultima Extreme Envy V2" Intel Core i7 4770K @ 4.4GHz Overclocked Haswell Quad Core Gaming PC" that I originally saw?

You're getting a better motherboard, GPU, PSU, and case. The Envy has more RAM, but you don't need more than 8gb. It also has a better CPU cooler.

The Envy comes to over £1800 with the 250gb SSD and Windows. So you're getting a slightly better system plus a monitor for less money.

We're always happy to help ;) Post some pictures once you've got everything up and running :D

The SP120 is for the CPU cooler - put it in the rear of the case as exhaust. The 120mm stock fan currently there can go in the front of the case as an extra intake fan if you have room (I'm not sure if you would need to remove any drive cages). The two AF140s go in the top as exhaust. So, cool air in from the front and floor, hot air out of the rear and roof.

The PSU positioning doesn't greatly matter, really.
