A few months back I ordered the "Ultima Scimitar" intel i7 5820K @ 4.0GHz overclocked DDR4 Watercooled Gaming PC system from OC, the following is my review..

On enquiring of purchasing this rig with the OC sales team, I was informed the rig would be assembled and "fully tested" before delivery, at just a tweak over £2.5K I wanted to ensure this was so. So after a little reassurance, I went ahead and purchased the system.

I had already ordered a Samsung SE790C 1440p monitor from another source (as OC was out of stock), so the whole rig including my flight set-up would be just a touch under £4K.

About 10 days later, the delivery arrived on a day I specified as I would not be home. After a little re-organisation, a few days later I was home to accept delivery of this huge monster of a rig.

I unpacked the base station and ensured all was ok before connecting the basics up to get it going. Then after initial set-up, got all my usual hardware bits attached and driver installed and started to get a few games installed ready to test. 30 minutes after starting Arma 3, I got my first BSOD.... I rebooted and tried Dirt Rally, after 20mins got another BSOD which followed immediately with another BSOD while I was trying to read the error message (first time in 20 years of PC usage I have had a double BSOD).

I powered down and started to run through my steps, bearing in mind that for the past 10 years I have been building my own rigs and I work as a project engineer for an IT company in the Oil & Gas sector. After a few hours I was starting to get BSOD and system freezing on boot up or just after getting to desktop. So onto my old rig to contact customer service.

To cut a long story short (e.g. several weeks) I discovered that the RAM was faulty on stick 3, removing 2 sticks down to 8Gb would give me a stable system. I got sent some replacement RAM, which it turned out was also faulty (or at least at first glance). Then several weeks after this, more replacement RAM arrived which also went faulty on install. So it was agreed between OC and myself, to RMA the whole rig back. Another 10 days or so later, the rig was returned to me, nearly 6 weeks after my initial purchase with the answer of a faulty motherboard was causing the RAM to go hot.

It is now several months after all this has taken place, while I have had no further issues with this rig since that initial phase, I have noticed that the BIOS settings are pure default as the rig was returned to me. I was promised a RAM upgrade to 3GHZ yet the BIOS is set to 2.14GHz. My CPU is still running at default 3.3GHz so basically....

The rig was never burnt tested, it was delivered with no OC settings applied and it took nearly 8 weeks and 1 complete RMA of the whole system to get a working rig that was stable to run any game for longer than 10 minutes.

So after all this money and time, I still don't have a system that I paid for and I do not have enough confidence to push the system to the advertised settings (as in I don't believe the system will actually take it), without me having to worry about sending the whole thing back yet again.....

So this is one middle aged male with a HUGE disposable income that will never, ever be spending any money every again with OC....

The system was not fully tested before sending, the system on return was never set-up as advertised and basically I have been ripped off with the hope I would never notice..... mmmmmffff

I will add to this review that even on non-overclock settings, the rig is pretty awesome. It will manage all games on top settings at 60fps (which I set as cap as the monitor is 60Hz). So hopefully even when newer games come out that require a little more juice, I can tweak the settings on the hardware to give me the extra power..
