Evening, I have bought the Ultima Dreadnought system from overclockers which is advertised to have it's i7 950 overclocked to 4.00GHz. Is this me being stupid or is the CPU running at stock speed here?

Thanks

Speedstep maybe? Clocking itself back when not under full load? Keep CPU-Z open and fire up something that you know will use 100% CPU and see what happens.

Aha that explains it smeaney thanks - just run prime95 and like you say, it fired up to the 4GHz. Glad someone know what they're talking about!

Sorry to bring this up again but today I had another look today and I don't think the overclock is performing as it should see - see the image. Apologies if i'm way off the mark again here.

Looks like theres no overclock setted at all. The gain in clock speed is turbo boost which puts the multiplier up by x1 when the CPU is under high load.

Go into the motherboards bios and see if there is a profile been saved and if there is turn it on and the overclock which was set by OCUK will be set.

Hi both, thanks for your replies. For some reason I can't even get into the BIOS. I've tried tapping the DEL key, holding it down but it just goes straight from the gigabyte screen to something with weird numbers then to windows as below. Do I need to update the Gigabyte software or something? Also tried F12 on the first screen and the same, it just skips on.

Right i've had a good look around BIOS but can't find any mention of loading profiles, only CMOS. From the M.I.T page though it looks like the overclock is correctly set?

Aha you beauty RJC! I thought you meant F12 for the boot menu before! There was indeed an OCUK profile there to choose from and back up to 4GHz now. Any ideas why it reverted to a different/default profile?

Thanks again for the support and to mattjd. You would pay a lot of money at a local computer shop for the support you guys give!

No probs :) hopefully it will stay there now :D

I think they sometimes they throw a wobbler, I know my systems have done this in the past, put the overclock back and alls well.
