Ultimate Ears Triple Fi 10 problem

I bought a pair of these in April 2008 and something seems to have happened to the right ear piece. The sound coming out of it is really quiet and tinny compared to the left and sounds worse than a pair of iPod head phones.

I'm pretty sure it's not a blockage in the ear piece itself and I've always kept them in the metal tin when not in use (after my pair of super.fi 5's broke I learned my lesson) so I can't see how the cable or headphones themselves could have been damaged.

Unhelpfully, it looks like they only have a 1-year warranty too and I will be really upset if they've broken for no good reason, especially considering how much they cost.

Anyone got any ideas? :(

Sometimes with headphones a hair or something can get trapped inside causing distortion. I remember this happened to someones phones on Head fi forum. He found there was distortion if the volume was turned up. He was sure it wasn't normal, so he dismantled them and found a hair in the diaphragm. Afterwards, distortion was gone. I don't know if it's possible for something like dust to get inside some earphones causing a similar problem. Just an idea.

Either that or seems like they have developed a fault. I doubt earphones can be dismantled, the ones I have used would probably break if one tried to get inside.

Thanks for the suggestion mate.

Had another good listen to them and got someone elses opinion and I think one of the bass drivers has died - no bass at all.

Question is now, is it possible to get them repaired? I visited the Ultimate Ears site and it looks like they offer a repair service to US customers but nothing about UK/EU that I can find.

Personally, even though they have a "1 year warranty", i don't think that constitutes a reasonable amount of time under the Sale of Goods Act - 18 months is not a reasonable amount of time for a £300 top of the range set of earphones to last, and as such you should be entitled to a repair as far as I'm concerned.
