Hi All

If anyone can help me it's you guys, i've been all over the web tried tons of fixes and i cannot get my computer to access the internet upstairs.

So here's the deal:

I have o2 top level broadband, i have the tp link 300 mbs wireless adaptor connected to a windows 7 x64 desktop.

This was working for months and then suddenly stopped accessing the internet, the connection is full and if i disconnect and reconnect it works for around a minute.

There is a laptop in my house and it connects perfectly

I've ran AVG, spybot, windows defender, malware bytes.. + others with nothing showing up so it's not a virus / trojan.

I have tried a lot of fixes that are suggested on the web with no results.

I'm not networking literate so if you give advice please explain it to me in stages.

Here is the Ipconfig rundown:

Why is it not connecting ... i think it's probably something like a changed setting or a gateway issue...

Firewalls are off, and yes i've tried switching it on and off again lol

P.s it connects downstairs via ethernet and also by wireless although this stopped recently and now only by ethernet.

Have you tried uninstalling the device driver and installing it again? Could just be a corrupt driver. Also are you running the latest drivers?

I've tried all of the basic stuff yea, also it connects wireless but just won't access any information... not even google will load but the connection is excellent...

if someone has a link to the latest drivers for the tp link 300mbps TL- WN822N wireless adaptor i will try it again, just to be safe.

Tried another wireless card? TP-Link are a cheap brand so could be faulty.

This product is the top level wireless adaptor sold by ocuk, it can't be faulty as it attains a excellent signal and also works perfectly for the first couple of minutes when connected, its like something blocks the signal shortly after.

I tried the uninstalling everything and uploaded it with the newest drivers( thank you for the link tomw92) it worked for around an hour then suddenly stopped again. so i had to plug the ethernet back in.

I'll be honest, I'm not sure what all the info you posted means !

However, what DNS servers are your modem pointing to ? What DNS servers are your PC going to ? The modem normally picks up the ISP's default automatically, but worth checking. The PC normally just points to the modem (192.168.1.1 ?), but you can also manually set them.

Andy

I dont know how to do this but i will find out as this is probably the only thing i saw reported but dident check as i dont know anything about DNS or how to affect a change in it.

Tried changing the wireless channel?

Use inssider to check which channels are in use in your vicinity

http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/

-edit, that video shows you how to use it, good stuff

I will try this when i get home thanks, i;ve changed the channel 3 times and it generally works for awhile then stops again, i will use your program and test it out thank you.

Getting virgin media soon so i really dont want any issues, i might buy these powerlines so i know its a definate for me.

You say you have done all the basics but you have missed the one obvious an easy thing to work out if it is the wireless adapter or the PC as it could be either, so what if the wireless card works for 10 minutes sometimes, has a 100% singal strength or is the most expensive product OCUK sell. You need to either test that adapter in another PC/laptop or try a different adapter in your PC.

you are quite correct... and i do have a micro adaptor somewhere around...

Also i bought the adaptor form another supplier... if i find out it now does not work am i able to return that product? I've only had it around 3 months max...

Ok so i've tried to switch the channel using inSSIDer and i've found channel 11 to be the least used, still it doesnt work, i had a connection yesterday for around 4 hours and everything was fine then it went kaput. I've looked in the settings and theres no registry for the DNS in the connection settings, can anyone help me with this, there has to be someone on this forum who has some ideas. it cannot be the adaptor as it was working yesterday fine and now again not.

Well it is either a software or hardware issue. Which means reloading Windows or trying another adapter.

I'd love to reload windows but i dont have a copy of win 7 x64 anymore, and i've tried my other adaptor but it's not working. this adaptor works though or i wouldent have been able to get online yesterday, it has to be something in the registry, some piece missing or a conflict of some kind in the gateways blocking access.

edit : i hate networking

If you are not able to do this make a note of the error you get,
Also run ipconfig at this point and ping,
Ping both the router and google.

Also can you note what Anti virus and Firewall you are using ?

at present i uninstalled all firewalls except windows and turned that off as some people said this could be the reason.

I have tried a secondary adaptor and this also gives the same problem.

some additional info for you, i can access online games (dayz) while not being able to get onto the internet, this only works if i disconnect and reconnect then join the game, it then holds the connection to the game but will not load the internet.

I've just signed up to virgin media 30mb, i am hopeing that when i install it, it will clear up the problem...

I will try to ping the router page and google but it loads neither when i am connected and the issue is there, also i'm in the least used channel

update i got Vergin medias 30mb package yesterday, while ethernet connected im getting full 30mb and downstairs with adaptor still getting full connection no problems, i took the computer back upstairs and everything was fine until this morning, i now have the same issue, i managed to run a speed test when it connected briefly and got 1mb or less from the wireless connection... i have another adaptor and its the same. Girlfriends laptop is getting a constant 12mb upstairs. I'm going to do the ping tests now

I've figured out it must be my room , i put the computer anywhere else in the house and the issue clears up, there must be something interfering with the wireless signal in my room, i guess ill have to get powerlines

Edit: this is strange as there was no problem for over 3 months...

Is it possible that there are other devices connecting into your network and that 'maybe' you've maxed out your DHCP lease pool?
I'd check the logs on the router to see if the IP for your tp-link adaptor is being released, or if it simply is a matter of signal drop.
Also, any other devices in the house that use or can interfere with RF technology, ie. wireless AV senders, wireless thermostats etc?

Have you confirmed that when you lose the internet your wifi signal is also lost?
If you still have signal try accessing google by IP rather than DNS
http://173.194.67.94, see what happens.

If you do the following in a cmd prompt:
ping 173.194.67.94 -t this will give you a continuous ping to google.co.uk. Keep it running in the background. When you lose connection check to see if you get any time-outs.
You could also run a simultaneous ping for dns in another cmd window
ping www.google.co.uk -t
See if that reports time-outs too. If one does and one doesn't then there may well be dns issues somewhere in your pc or router.
You could try ipconfig /flushdns on your pc.

Let us know...unless you think you've already solved it by having a dead zone of a room.

I will try this tonight when i get home, i tried to ping google and my router page when i was on the o2 wireless box and both got a response but i dident have access to the net, most of the time its saying i have limited connectivity.

With the new virgin media router i'm getting a better signal but its still having issues 80% of the time, i was literally about to buy the powerline adaptors that are on offer and say f%&k it, as nothing beats an ethernet connection.

but with my track record with the internet i bet they still wouldent work.

edit: i have no other wireless items in the house , theres my desktop and my girlfirends laptop, but the laptop also loses connection in my room

google ping while working

Sorry i missed that out, i connected at around 6 pm last night and got a decent connection without dropout, i still might pick up the powerlines simply because i'll get more from it than the wireless connection and it will be more stable, i'll test it over the next few days, if i repeatedly get the issue, i'm going to buy them while there on offer

This is 2 separate sets of ping test to Google when i dropped out, i was normally playing dayz, i had performed a broadband speed test before starting and got 25mbps on my wirelesss dongle, suddenly after an hour i dropped out started getting really poor connection so i ran these two tests and tried to browse.

I fixed this issue so i thought i'd give an update on what was causing the problem so that people with similar issue can fix it.

The issue was nothing to do with the pc or my connection, although my house seems to block the signal sometimes. The problem was my wireless headset causing interferance, and also my mobile phones wireless does this. If your contantly recieving a bad signal or its dropping out consistantly, look around for anything thats wireless and disconnect it and see if this is the culprit, i litterally never thought that my headset would interfere with my wireless internet. As an additional note this is a major issue for xbox 360 as the wireless device in the xbox is S>>t and any interferance messes with it.

Admin can lock this thread now, issue is solved.

So just to confirm.
You are not able to access any sites yet can plat games ok with no issues?
This does not sounds like packet loss as most games will go nuts for packet loss.

Ok with the cable use the connection until it drops,
At this point do not disconnect.

Run ipconfig,
Ping the router,
Ping a website,
Try to log in to the router,
Hover your mouse over the network icon and report back what is says
"Connected to blah" "Access limited" or what ever it say.

Also can you confirm what firewall/s you are using & what windows it is.

Please read the post above yours.

This issue has been fixed for almost 3 months now, and it was most definatly the other wireless devices as i tested it without and with over and over to make sure and every single time i have the headset on, the internet would cut out but the game would continue to run, however i would experiance a drop in quality on the gameplay.

It is still apparent as i need to turn off my wireless on my phone otherwise i am constantly being disconnected from game and the wireless signal cuts out, this happens all the time but if i switch my wireless off on my phone everything clears up and i get no more issues.

I don't run any firewalls, i tried every single way that was offered to me to get my internet working, non of them worked. I had simply overlooked my wireless headset
