Right, don't know if anybody else has posted this but I thought I'd give a heads up anyway.

I've been using Ultimatedefrag for a while and have been singing its praises but nobody seems to have noticed - I never see it mentioned when people discuss defraggers!

Anyway, the 2008 version has just been released and they've made the previous version available for free.

Word of warning: the ultimatedefrag website looks pretty ropey and there is a hell of a lot of spiel on it. But download the app, plough through the manual (sadly, again full of spiel) and you'll begin to appreciate the power and flexibility of ultimatedefrag.

Yep, theres a new best freeware defragger in town....

UltimateDefrag!

;)

Whats with all the 'x is switched off' things that it notifys me about on first load?
System features or program features?
I left them at off as i didnt know what they were.

That's the problem with it, you need to read the manual to understand it instead of an easy interface and quick settings that works on 99% of all pc's...

Its just the ntfs last access timestamp, which you presumably have switched off. Ultimatedefrag (and some other defraggers) use this to figure out your most commonly used programs and move them to the outside of the disc for faster access.

Agreed. It is not particularly easy to figure out and it doesn't have the most pleasing GUI. And the manual is a chore to wade through. But if you stick with it you'll realise that it is far superior to the likes of auslogics defrag and indeed most other defraggers out there.

:D
