Ive been having an intermittent problem with my laptop for quite a while now.
it can be fine for several weeks, then it will do it.

It only really seems to happen when im using it for general tasks, and not when pushing the system hard, i.e gaming

i can be surfing the net, using Itunes, sorting through my data etc when the system will become very jerky, and sluggish. even the mouse cursor goes spluttery.

Im running Vista X64, and in my sidebar ive always got a coretemp gadget running. i always notice that when my system goes spluttery one of my cores %useage will be sticking between 0% - 2% while the other one will have a much higher useage. when my system is running nicely both cores are normally pretty even on the %useage front.

if i then reboot the laptop it will be fine again

when its happening i always check to see is there are any processes taking up the CPU time, but nothing ever looks out of the norm.

when im gaming and the CPU is running flat out i never get the spluttering problems.

Anyone any ideas? could my CPU be on its way out?

Temperatures are about 80deg when gaming, and about 40-50 with general tasks

Sounds to me like your Laptop is throttling because of heat. This is possibly due to the CPU get hot when running 1core flatout and 1 core idle.

Can you download HWInfo32 and monitor the temps.

In the meantime this LINK is the owners forum for your laptop on notebookreview there may be some additional info for this problem in it.
