im just about to install a Ultra-120 extreme onto a G x38-dq6, i have removed the crazy cool from the underside of the motherboard and am about to fit the mounting bracket on the underside of the motherboard. It comes with a plastic sheet in the shape of an x on it, with a pull off square sticky pad. Do i have to remove these or keep them on ?

I think you can fit it without using the sticky pad which is the probably the best idea if you plan to change the heatsink sometime in the future.

I think the sticky pad is just for keeping it in place (held up against the mobo) incase you ever remove the heatsink with the motherboard in the case.
If you removed the heatsink without the stickypad holding the backplate in place it may drop inbetween the mobo and case and you'd have to take everything apart to get to it.

thanks lads, also 1 more thing, if i run this heat sink without a fan will it be ok, i have got to order some new fans to go on the heat sink but would like to test everything is working ok

Should be ok, but don't overclock anything, just to play safe and keep any eye on the temps.

Havn't you got a fan you can ghetto hang from it? Case fan or something?

i bought an 80mm delta but i heard you were not supposed to plug them into your motherboards fan slot as there quite powerful, i was going to buy a 3 pin to molex cable and some new fans, would it be ok to plug in the delta to the mother board ?

topgear, i just bought one of those mobo's. what are you going to cool the other chips with that the crazycool cools? like the northbridge?

i also want the 120 extreme.
