Im looking to spec and ultra budget gaming pc for a mates 12 year old son. do you think the below would be acceptable for Low - mid range graphics at 1080p using a GTX660 which i can give him for free.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £416.66
(includes shipping: £12.30)

will probably get ocuk to build so that will ad a bit more to the cost, but i dont want to be tech support for thhe next 2 years

Would an i5 be a better choice for a gaming rig.

Plus a second HDD as storage, listening to my son talk about the size of some games your 240gb SSD might fill up rather quickly.

As someone who only has a few games on a 240gb SSD myself, I'd say catergorically yes to either a bigger SSD or second HDD :p

The best bang for buck would be a 120gb SSD with 1TB HDD.

My own lads have went from 120gb, 240gb, and 500gb SSD only set ups, it did not take long to realise 120gb for the OS only with a 1tb or bigger was the way to go, even a 500gb SSD will fill up pretty quick with games folders.

My system, 250gb ssd OS drive, 960gb ssd games, 4tb storage, 4tb back up.

My second system, 120gb ssd OS drive, 500gb ssd games.

Lads PC (two share), 120gb ssd OS drive, 1.5tb hdd WD green for storage/games.

Daughter, 240gb SSD (will replace with 120gb), 1tb hdd storage and games.

Once you have a storage drive for games you quickly realise there is not a lot of programs a child needs to install on an OS drive. But you will most likely run out of storage on the HDD, my lads xbox is at 1.5tb worth of game content, and if I gave him more storage that would increase, he is more frugal with the PC downloads, mainly due to only a select group of friends playing PC games I guess.

agreed with the above. You really need 1TB of spinning disk storage these days, unless you are extremely diligent about deleting things as soon as you need them.
