Ok as I am currently in the process of rebuilding my new rig, my 10 yr old boy has been very interested throughout and has asked to build his own PC. I feel this is a great learning opportunity for him however, I'm not really in the position to spend a ton of money here either.

So with that said, is it possible I can build a reasonable tower that will play say Minecraft, Smite, Lego Worlds, & Fifa, with a very small budget of £300 for the tower only. I have a seperate budget for keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers and os.

Not sure if this one is possible, but thought this would be the best place to ask.
If £300 is not a good figure what would you say is a good budget, I would like to give him some options so that he has an influence in choosing the parts also as this would also help him learn more about what he is building.

As always, many thanks in advance

You could be looking at stuff along these lines, or second hand.

My own lads have my hand me downs, but I also have a budget PC I use as a secondary test bed.

You sadly do have to shop around, and GPU's well it's around £99 for a 750ti that is the basic for reasonable 1080p gaming. But with the Nvidia 950, 960, and AMD 370 for similar money it seems pointless.

A 450w to 550w PSu from the likes of EVGA or Superflower is an reasonable item to spend a little more on.

My lads have my old Silverstone TJ08B-E case, but wanted my NZXT Source which is white with a window and remote control RGB lighting.

I think in some respects if this is something he will be using a lot, that friends will see etc, it can be a lot more interesting to go for looks and such too. A decent case and PSU offer a solid upgradable foundation. It is easy to sell on a cheap motherboard or CPU, but less interest is there for a budget plasticky case and low powered budget PSU.

Just google RGB lighting with NZXT S340 for some inspiring videos your son may want to emulate. (I use Phobya myself), the case in the above list would also look great, I prefer a single 30cm strip myself.
