Ultra cheap Netbooks?

I have the 1gb version of the Aspire blue and i run normal windows on it.Its fine for net stuff and basic office stuff, I use it for travelling I have demon tool so i can have all my DVD images on the drive, i also can play 720p files easily.

Battery is poor but i have a 6 cell unit, which gives me 7-8 hours on a plane.

I have an 8gb SSD Aspire One. It's a great little machine, but the SSD is extremely slow at writing, so XP is painfully slow unless you install the EWF driver from XP embedded. The EWF diverts HDD writes to ram, and as such makes Windows very snappy and responsive.

I have upgraded mine to 1.5gb ram and installed a v-lited Vista, with the EWF driver. It actually runs really nicely, it's quick and responsive even with Aero enabled. The EWF driver takes a bit of messing about to install though, and in all honesty you are better off with the standard HDD model if you want to run XP or Vista.

The Linux models don't have a windows key, they have a 'Home' key that acts as a Windows key when windows is installed. All in all it's a great little machine, the only real downside is the short battery life.

You'll need a 6 cell battery if you want long usage from it. My Asus Eee PC gives me about 5-6 hours, although that is with SSD which uses a bit less power than normal hard disk.

what software are you using to play 720p stuff? on my netbook with an atom and 2gb they max out the cpu to 100%

How much you wanting to spend, toying with the idea of selling mine and getting one of those Dell mini 10s with the high res screen

I was looking at a new one for £170..

Yeah I wouldnt spend any more than that on one dude,anymore than that and you may aswell well get a proper mini laptop.

Andy I use Core codec and WMP11/MPC and it works well, does help if nowt else is running in the background.I even run fotball manager 2008 on mine

acer aspire one seems to be a good budget one
