Ultra DMA (UDMA) Modes

Hi,

Just looking at output of my drive from HD Tune

Firmware version : 1AA01113
Serial number : xxx
Buffer size : 33553920 bytes
Standard : ATA/ATAPI-0 - SATA II
Supported mode : UDMA Mode 7 (Ultra ATA/512)
Current mode : UDMA Mode 5 (Ultra ATA/100)

Current UDMA mode is 5. How do i change it to 7? I assume changing to 7 will make my drive faster.

This may simply be a case of the controller not reporting the modes correctly rather than any problem. What are the min, max & average transfer rates being reported as?

UDMA Mode 5 is ATA100, UDMA Mode 6 is ATA133.

There is no UDMA Mode 7. More than likely it's a dummy placeholder for SATA if you are running the controller in compatibility mode rather than AHCI.

It's theoretical more than anything - I doubt a single drive will consistently return more than a 133MB/sec in a sustained transfer.
